Health & Safety Policy

We comply with current regulations and British standards through planning, monitoring and training. Our company Health and Safety Officer, with over 25 years experience in the scaffolding industry, is available at all times.

All our scaffolders are fully trained and registered CISRS qualified and also ECITB cardholders, ensuring the highest level of service with safe working practice in place. All employees are issued with PPE at all times (Personal Protective Equipment - Safety Helmets, High Visibility Vests, Safety Boots, Gloves, Glasses, Harnesses).

Phil Thomas CMIOSH MIIRSM Safety Consultant and CDM Co-Ordinator. (Director) Phil has worked in the health & safety profession since 1989 and during that time, has acted as Project Safety Manager on several multi-million pound projects. He is an experienced training provider, a chartered member of I.O.S.H. and a full member of the I.I.R.S.M.
Martin Smart CMIOSH RMaPS MIIRSM Safety Consultant and CDM Co-Ordinator (Director) Martin has nearly 20 years experience in workplace safety, including construction, demolition and manufacturing. He is also experienced in safety at sports grounds and is an accomplished trainer. Martin is a chartered member of I.O.S.H. and a full member of the I.I.R.S.M, and a registered member (CDM Co-Ordinator) with the APS.

TG20:08 has been issued as technical industry guidance on the use of the European Standard BS EN12811-1, which supersedes BS 5973 and applies to all tube and fitting scaffolding from the most basic to the most complex of scaffold structures.

The UK scaffolding industry should be fully conforming to the European Standard BS EN12811-1:2003 by the end of 2010 rather than the withdrawn British Standard BS 5973:1993.

BS EN12811-1 is a performance document not giving detailed advice on safe systems of work for erecting, altering or dismantling scaffolds when erected using tubes and fittings." To overcome this, the NASC produced TG20:08 (Technical Guidance on the use of BS EN12811-1) overcoming this, published as a guide to good practice for scaffolding with tubes and fittings.
TG20:08 will become the required standard by which tube and fitting scaffolding should be erected and (when required) designed. The guidance has been produced in two volumes, one for every day use by scaffolding contractors and the second for specific use by scaffold designers. Available to order here.

The NASC are currently reviewing SG4 (Preventing Falls in Scaffolding and Falsework), SG4:05 being the current version. The next version SG4:10 will be available late 2010. Until SG4:10 is released the NASC recommends that the scaffolding industry operates to SG4:05, including the interim guidance Appendix A.

Cardiff Scaffolding Contracts Ltd carry out regular inspections to ensure Health & Safety policy standards are being implemented at all times, including updates to policies and working practices as they occur, with prompt additional training of all staff as required. As with staff, company vehicles and equipment also comply with the relevant regulations throughout.
